It's peak-birdsong time of year, and perhaps because they're so much more prolific and vocal here in Cambridge, I've developed a mild obsession with the Merlin birding app.

In the space of 10 minutes in the Mill Road cemetery this evening, which is dense with trees, it picked up 11 different species.

I love that it lights up on the names of the birds that are singing in real time so I can make the associations, and the amount of information you get to not only cross-check the identification but also learn about them.

I might be in danger of becoming a Bird Bore, but I guess there are worse things to be.
