I had an early start today for a train trip to Edinburgh to see the angel boy

After an expedition to the western suburbs of the city to buy paint for his room - to match the jungle wall-paper fit for a boy with African blood in his veins - the three of us trammed back to Newhaven for tea -

Still excited from the long outing, there was no way he was going to sleep.

From the safe anchor of his mother, his expression is always inquisitive and reflective -

Having known only a steady and loving home, he's calm in all kinds of environments and completely trusting. Grasping my hand here -

We walked down to the harbour to pick up fresh fish for dinner

which we ate around the kitchen table while he curiously observed -

In the end it needed his father's intuitive knack to lull him into a deep sleep for the night -
